Suzy Menkes was honoured in France this week for her contribution to fashion.
The fashion director of the International Herald received her Knight of the Order from the Legion of Honor. Menkes was honoured in front the biggest names in the fashion industry including Christian Lacroix, Issey Miyake, Paul Smith, Azzedine Alaia and Sonia Rykiel.
The Culture Minister Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres said:" You are terribly feared but totally respected."
Menkes is one of the most influential people in the fashion industry and has a reputation for making or breaking designers. She championed eccentric designer Alexander Mc Queen when he first appeared on the fashion radar as a designer for Givenchy.
Menkes has also been given an OBE recently by the Queen in her annual birthday honours list. She posed for photographers wearing a bright red Balenciaga. According to Vogue online, she had been awarded the OBE to "pique the French just before this Legion D'Honneur ceremony."
